      Phenolic spacer

Not a definitive answer. Just guidance. Commonly known by the trade name of Tufnol, there are two types. Resin bonded fabric, and resin bonded paper. Both machine well. Cut edges should be treated with a little oil. Avoid the dust when machining.

        stripped head studs

        Hello all,
Views of alloy cylinder when bike returned from Heliciol repair.
Just assembled with all your input and advice using 22lb ft torque and silicone heat resistant sealer.
Villers manual gives torque at 390 lb inch, hence the problem.
Fingers crossed bike fired and feels good.
        Many thanks everyone.

This looks like a Parkinson head & barrell rather than Greeves. Parkinson made alloy cylinder conversions that were available as a bolt on mod to the A series 197 & 246cc Villiers engines. It has less & wider spaced fins than the Greeves TES barrell. Cotton, Francis Barnett & Butler (amongst others) used the Parkinson conversion which had a chrome bore rather than steel liner.
