I have just been sent this photo by a collegue (who wishes to remain anonimous) who took attached photo (copyright reserved) of me whilst competing in the 1975 Welsh Two Day Trial on a 125cc Rickman Enduro. I rode in the Welsh from 1972 to 1979 on a variety of machines, 250 Bultaco Sherpa, 125 Saracen (ex works Mick Bowers), the Rickman & an XT 500 Yamaha. Sadly never competed on a Greeves. Managed to finish ever year and got a Silver medal in 1973 (Saracan) & Gold in 1979 (XT 500 Yamaha) & Bronze in the rest. The chap in the photo filling up chain oiler is Mick Cousins of the Cambridge Matchless M.C.C. for whom I was a team member

Welsh 2 Day
John The two Cheney,s were ex team bikes bought from Ken Heanes after the 1971 Isdt on the Iom. Alan Davey had Ken,s gold medal winning bike WCG101H,and I had 105H Mick Wilkinson,s (the one that stopped on the first day!). The second photo could be 1973 because i owned the Bultaco and the Cortina about that time. ,And we,ve still got the Cheney,s !.
Happy days! Paul.

XT (WBJ 227S) is still on the road
I recently looked up my XT Yamaha WBJ 227S on the DVLA MoT Test site https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/, it shows the bike was tested at Armstrong Racing Developments 176 Westgate Road Newcastle Upon Tune NE4 6AL on 26 May 2017 and also in 2016 at same test station on 17 June 2016
So it looks as though the owner on those dates lived in the Tyneside area. According to Armstrong it was booked in by someone called Lynam or Lineham.
The bike changed 'keeper' on 7 July 2017 so may not still be in the Tyneside area.
Here is another pic of it in enduro trim, it was converted back to standard trim by the next owner so will probably not look like the pic now.

The Saracen is not on DVLA so presumed long gone.
The Yamaha is still on DVLA untaxed since 01 November 1979 (DVLA have it as 125 but it was a 175)
The Rickman is not on DVLA but was last known with Tony Silvey in North Cambs a few years agoLast edited by John Wakefield; 29/10/2017, 10:45 PM.

Fascinating info and pictures, thanks for posting.
I had the same reinforced wellies when I started trials - I believe they were meant for use in mines and were standard NCB issue.
I also understand XT500s were quite common in enduros around that time - at least two friends of mine used them in such events.
