  • Monza cap fitment

Hi all, I am rebuilding a 1963 TE trials bike, it is fitted with an aluminium tank with a Monza cap, has anyone tried to take the cap off of the tank, it looks like, from looking through the cap that the tank is peened or bevelled over to trap the the cap? Any help appreciated.
    Clive.

    Hi Rusty,

Before continuing, I must say that I don't have any direct experience with the Monza caps fitted to Greeves with alloy tanks, but I did have one on an alloy tank fitted to an old Ducati 250 I owned.

On that bike, the cap (upper part, with hinged cap and ring) was threaded onto a separate 'neck' tube piece which in turn fitted to the tank. I believe the types fitted to Greeves with fibreglass tanks are attached with adhesive with the neck/tube moulded integral to the tank, and one member has used ordinary 'Araldite' epoxy in this application as he said it was petrol resistant.

As such, I was wondering if this could explain the 'peened over'/'bevelled' part you mention, which I was wondering could be part of the 'neck' component?

Sorry I can't be more help, and I hope other members may be able to offer something more definitive for you.

    Brian.

That link takes me to what looks like a scam page.

WRT the original query I fitted a Monza type cap to a Honda tank - I made an adaptor out of auminium alloy and glued it in to the tank witha specialised epoxy. Working well so far but only 6 months or so.

Warning! Do NOT click on the link in Brian's post. It lets in a load of malware, I have warnings that 5 viruses are detected, and I need to scan my pc.

Brian, can you delete the link please?

Woah!! Link deleted immediately and thanks for the warning chaps. I just did a basic search for 'Monza Petrol Cap' or similar in 'images' which took me to the website I linked to and got no warnings at all on my system when I copied the link and posted it. When I think of all the links I've posted on here over so many years and never had this happen ever before, well, it just goes to show the need to be extra vigilant these days.

I can only sincerely apologise and hope anyone affected was able to remove any malware. Those scumbags make me sick.

I'll do a check on my own system too, just in case.

          Brian.

ID:	96627 I keep getting rubbish pop-ups; see pics. They appear to be linked to McAfee Security, who I wouldn't trust with a sterilised barge-pole, as I believe a lot of this malware stems from them. I don't have McAfee, but the pop-ups are telling me to renew my subscription. Nasty business.

There are more. If I clicked anywhere on these pop-ups I would be in more trouble. If as they extoll me to do I subscribe to McAfee, they then dip into my pc, remove the pop-ups and say haven't we done well to clean up your computer! Either that or it is some Russian bandits purporting to be McAfee; pita...
Fortunately the pc remains fully functioning.

Oh my goodness.....once again Ian, I'm so sorry that this has happened. I don't know what else to say.....I'm mortified and extremely p***ed off, especially for you.....

I've just run a full scan on my system and it's come up clean as a whistle.....As I said, I just found a link and posted it in all innocence as I had no warnings that it was a dodgy site whatsoever....

                  A nasty business indeed.

                  Brian.

It happened when I clicked on the icon which was there to prove I am not a bot; turned out the reverse is true. I normally wouldn't, but trusted the source. Just goes to show you can't trust anything. A web search shows these pop-ups are hard to get rid of, although they don't appear to be affecting the use of the computer as such.

Completely agree Ian, and I'm gutted that this happened. Something similar happened to my Wendy a good few years ago on an old laptop when she innocently clicked on an image of an old movie star she wanted to look up....bang, instant malware download before we could stop it. That was on Google images.

Once again, I'm sincerely sorry about this mess and the hassle it has caused you. I know that you will understand that I posted it in good faith and couldn't have known, but that isn't the point.

I hope nobody else has had similar issue too. Thank goodness you and Ian S spotted it early and I was able to get rid of it asap. Thanks again, for what that's worth.

                      Brian.

It's interesting that I didn't get any firefox warning. However the site in the link immediately punted me across to what was definitely dodgy - I could tell because it told me I was the 5 millionth search(!) and it wanted me to click on variousoptions to wen a prize.....

Me too Ian, and I'm still wondering why I never got any kind of warning on my system either.....

Thanks to you too for catching it early so I could at least get rid of it asap....very much appreciated.

I've just had a look at my history and it looks as though the site *** (vintagespareparts.com) which looks on face of it OK - redirects to the offending one which starts 2441.yearanadot.live.

I have just logged back on to my PC, and the pop-ups have multiplied. It took me a while to clear them, most of them purporting to be from Avast, wanting me to sign up to their virus protection; what a joke. That is a switch from MacAfee, who it was earlier. I of course know you did it in all innocence Brian. Just shows you can't be too careful. 2 more have popped up while I typed this.

If anyone knows how to clear this crap from my laptop, I would be most grateful.
