  • Scottish, late 57/58 197cc.

    Hi all
I wrote back in Spring 2010 asking for help on the 197cc, 9E M5 engine. The bike I purchased on Ebay was a Scottish, 1st registered Dec 57, frame 8007/TA. The engine has been refurbished and today I have at last removed SORN. There are no lights and I am looking forward to riding in daylight hours on the road/ green lanes.

I know some parts are incorrect and I now wish to slowly replace these. Would anybody have pictures of the original bike that I can use to move this project further forward please.

Close-ups of all areas except the engine would be brilliant!! Any help much appreciated as before.

    Regards

I'll see what I can do. May take a few days though...

Sadly not much to help in the archive. I think the TA pictures were "borrowed" a while back and haven't found their way to me.

I've attached the brochure picture in case that helps.

        Help

        Thanks Colin

There are over 80 "views" with regard to my query. As a novice I am convinced there are many members out there wanting this info but not sure where to look, whether it be my Scottish or all the other models and variants produced by Greeves. I don't want to upset anybody but I believe a lot of you have knowledge in your minds that you accept, without question. Others, that have no knowledge, but have memories and want to keep Greeves alive need a database that gives guidance to what is, and isn't, correct.

OK, I purchased this bike on Ebay on a memory of when I was 16 years old. We rode a bike on L plates, under 250cc, then moved to a car when 17. Every screw on the carburretor, throttle, clutch and gear lever is a memory. The person I purchased it off was naturally retiscent, but a year later he is now happy I have re-contacted him and told him it is "mucky again". He is now happy in the knowldege that I have not contacted him stating it is not as per advert and is passing on interesting information to preserve its history.

Colin and Ian, who I purchased it from, thank you for you help. It is a breath of fresh air.

Dave Bradley is an excellent restorer of bikes from that period and he has a formidable collection of Greeves himself.

He has expressed a willingness to advise restorers, particularly on correct specifications and sourcing parts. His address is in Leading Link.

Also, the GRA technical specialist for this model is Peter Smith, again contact details in LL.

I can't put phone numbers on here, but should be able to do so by Private Message if you so request.
