Hi.

Iain Banks is selling some of his Dads bikes on facebook. (Monty Banks Grandson I believe)

Has anybody heard of Don Smith stamping his own frames?

It has 24DSS/1 as a frame number? Reg Number on the bike is 152 UOO..

Has anybody heard of this?

The bikes hubs have got the ribs machined off, and a cable rear brake and footpegs like Dons bikes had. BUT the rear subframe is still complete??

Which one Scott ? I know of one that a Gra member has and that was an ex Don Smith, and have seen ads for others as well, he probably as in most cases reg it and sold it on after a short time , as lots of works riders did, and if you have a shop well!! i am sure JW will be able to help you out with the number situation

UOO would be an Essex registration - Don Smith's business was in Norf London so you'd expect a London number if he registered it.

If it's being sold on behalf of Monty Banks Jr, it will probably have a decent provenance anyway.

The bike looks to be kosher, the frame number was one of Dons DSS = Don Smith Special
Monty is a genuine guy & would not pass off a fake.
He also has a nice 24TE (440WPF) for sale at around £1800, but no V5c
