  • Trials Mudguards

    Hi all,

For those who use their bikes for trials, what guards are you using?

I have a Mk2 TES which I plan to use for trials. I think the Mk 2 had the guards the same as the fibreglass ones on the market but how robust are these in the real trials world where the occasional drop is likely?

Other options are alloy guards which at least look period but I assume also dent, and lastly plastic which is cheap and more robust other than scratching.

How resilient are the fibreglass or alloy guards?
I like the look of the fibreglass but not if they only last a few trials.

    Regards,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter

I still have the original fibre glass rear mudguard on my TFS. On the front I have a simple alloy guard. Hope this helps.

Hi. On my '58 Scottish I have the original (type) aluminium guards. They get battered of course, but I had the front one off the other day and treated it to some gentle 'stroking' with a rubber mallet and put it back on. Looks better now than it has in ages! Don't worry about originality; just use what you like and ride it!

If you are not worried about originality then go for Preston Petty or similar polypropylene. Alloy ones can usually be straightened, but fibre glass will break.
