  • Frame no. 60/3249

    Hello everyone,
    Some help requested!
Just bought some parts via the forum, can anyone identify 60/3249 it was listed as a trials bike but I have my suspicions as the colour is more roadster?

Also it is missing the head race track from the top crown plate (top yolk).Where these welded on to the top race ? Also does anyone supply these races for the ball bearings?

Next, what is the screw thread that retains the "Greeves Scottish" alloy plate to the tank and again who would supply them?

Lastly, I have a parts book for the Scottish trials models that only contains the actual part no. No diagrams. Does anyone have or supply an exploded diagram booklet of all the frame components that helps with rebuilds?

    Many thanks,
    Mac

    60/3249 is a road bike either a 25DB or 32DB

      Thanks John,
The frame just looked to clean to be trials.

        Steady on John!

        60/3249 is indeed a 24TCS Scottish: April 1960

Take your word for it Colin but from the Identity List
          60/2800 is start of 25DB
          60/2825 is start of 32DB
so I assumed that 60/3249 being a higher number would follow these.
the 1960 TCS starts at 60/1400

Beats me too John, but I am quoting from the dispatch register.

Perhaps they were going to build up a batch of roadsters, but then got a lot of orders for trials bikes.

It's the same basic frame, after all.

By the way, Mac, in 1960 the trials bikes and the roadsters were painted the same (ish) colour: Moorland Blue.

              Frame number identity

So really the Identity listing on the web site needs updating preferably with first & last numbers of each model. As it is it is giving misleading information

It's not a bad guide though; it would be such a complex job to sort out twenty-odd years worth of anomalies that it would probably be more trouble than it was worth, and just serve to further mislead people.

Mac, the tank badge screws are Instrument head 1/8" BSW, 3/8" length, 40tpi.

Try a forum search on "tank badge screws".

                  Tank screws

Are you really, really sure about the BSW thread.

I haven't turned any up for a few years, but have it in my head they are a BA size.
                  Just a thought ?

                  Rob.

Definitely 1/8 BSW (40tpi thread x 3/8" long) I have just removed one from my bike & measured it.

                      Ball bearing races

That gents for the information, seems to created some debate!
Does anyone know the ball race type for the headstock, and was the ball race on the top crown welded directly to it, or was there a spacer used?

                      Best regards,
                      Mac
