  • Chrome Plate, Zinc Plate, or Silver?

Regarding my 1964 24 TES, what was the original finish on the axles, brake arms, rear wheel adjusters, wheel spacers, rear brake rod, and sprocket?

On mine these are rusty with no paint or plating residue.
Pictures show these as silver but they usually don't appear to have a high polish like chroime.
Were they just silver painted or perhaps zinc plated?

    Thanks,

    Hi Peter ,

Original finish on bolts , spindles , nuts , adjusters etc. was cadmium plate , don't know if that is till availaable in NZ , I , and I suspect others use Zinc plate .

The brake levers on the hubs were a thin coat of chrome but zinc plate would do for them as well .

      Chris,

      Thanks for the reply.
Cadnium is no longer available locally for small lots but may be elsewhere in New Zealand.
I would be happy with zinc rather than ship them away for plating.
Chrome is not a problem to get done.

      Regards,

      Peter.
