  • Scottish restoration in Birmingham

    Hi all,

I'd like to introduce myself my name is Ben Graham and as the title sugests I'm restoring a 1958 scottish 197cc in Birmingham.

I'm a dustman by trade but I'm known to be quite handy with a spanner.

I own a 1993 Ducati monster 900 which comes out to play in the dry weather.

My father, my brother and I run a Mk2 Dellow trials car which is fun but very problematic.

I'm interested in all things mechanical and computer based.

I've joined the forum for advice on where and who to farm the restoration work out to, I've stripped most of the bike down and would like to assemble it myself but I'd like the frame, wheels, tank, engine restored to a good standard and in a shorter time scale than would be possible if I where to do it.

I'll add some pictures once I'm a registered member of the GRA

    Any advice is very appreciated

      Scottis restoration

Hi Ben welcome to the forum
Being in Birmingham you could farm the engine/gearbox unit out to Villiers Services http://www.villiersservices.co.uk/
& the wheels to Central Wheel http://www.centralwheel.co.uk/contactus/contactus.html
Both are in Birmingham so you will save on carrage. Both have good reputation
As for painting I am sure there are lots of paint shops around the Birmingham area, maybe have a look in Yellow pages or Old Bike Mart for names & addresses

        Thanks Phil and John,

I've taken a look at the links you post John and both companies look ideal.

I think I'll leave the engine rebuild untill last but I think I might start with the wheels.

On the central wheel web site it says they need to know all the dimensions of the wheel, well of course I've already cut all the spokes out and so I can't be sure of some of the info they need.

Where can I find the information they need and what rim, spokes and colour paint/powder coat for the hubs are closest to the original.

Maybe I should start a new thread in another part of the forum?

Have a word with Central Wheels I am sure they will have done Greeves wheels before & will know the off set. As for paint colour etc have a look on this link http://www.greeves-riders.org.uk/for...splay.php?f=25
