Hawkstone tank mounting

Hi folks,#
Small query re the above. My original Hawkstone(matt chrome) tank has had the rear monting brackets chopped(!?) . My question is, before I weld extension pieces on, which side of the rear subframe bolts do the brackets go i.e. inside or out i.e. brackets straight or stepped?

Reasonably certain that the brackets are stepped. And therefore, go outside the frame.
