  • Was the the DCX ever fitted with a 4T engine

Looking back at an early thread on DCX bikes, http://www.greeves-riders.org.uk/for...ighlight=25DCX there was a posting by Garry Gwillam who said at the time he knew of a surviving 25DCX frame number 216 that was fitted with a 353E 4T engine.
Looking on the 'Identify List' 25DCX216 is listed as the first one for 1964. As this was after Greeves had changed from the 2T to 4T for the 25DDMk2 & 25DCMk2 it is conceivable that one or two were sent out with 4T engines.
Does anyone else know of this bike or can shed any light on it. The majority of 25DCX were supplied in 1962/3.

    John,

    I don't know all that much about these models but a quick glance at the 'Identify' list shows this;

    1962 25DCX Sportsman Roadster 249cc Villiers 4T M22 25DCX102

This is the first for 1962, but beyond that and without further digging I cannot say any more.

Must admit though, reading your statement that the majority of 25DCX models weren't supplied until 1992/3 came as a bit of surprise.......

    Brian.

I'll have a look at the dispatch records to settle this one.

No time today though - GRA committee meeting, so up early for two-and-three-quarter hours run to Kidlington...

        Whoops typo should read 1962/3
The 'Identify' listing is wrong all known DCX's were fitted with either the 2T or 3T engine. According to Greeves Production Records total production of the 25DCX was 109; with 97 in 1962; 10 in 1963; 1 in 1964 and 1 in 1965. There were only 8 32DCX, 6 in 1962; 1 in 1963; and 1 1964

          Checked in the dispatch records:

All the 250s left the factory with 718D 2T engines.

All of the 325s apart from one were fitted with 222D 3T engines

The last one dispatched had a 053D 3T - which was part of a batch allocated to Panther.

Perhaps Greeves got a surprise order, had no 3Ts left and had to source one.

Anyway, no DCX left the factory with a 4T.

Thanks Colin, I assume this also included 25DCX216 and was there a later one? as the production list of bikes produced (compiled by Andrew King I believe many years ago) shows one more in 1965

Oh, that's interesting. 216 isn't there, the highest number is 215.

              A special order perhaps?

Hopefully Garry Gwillam will come on board and let us know, as it would appear he knows of the bike, (said this in afore mentioned thread "AND THIS BIKE EXISTS ! 1964 25DCX 353E 25DCX216") 353E was a 4T allocation to Greeves for 25DC Mk2
maybe has it in his shed.
