Just thought you should know I have sorted out all the hassle of registering a bike with no documents or number plate to help i/d it. I did this through info@dvlaadvice.co.uk.( David Williams is the Man) web site explains every thing. In doing it this way it has saved me time and the cost of hiring a trailer to go to Bridgewater to see Carol Thatcher who is my nearest club inspector. I understand that one should support your club but if the mountain will not come to mahamid then he will have to go to the mountain or however the saying goes but I'm sure you get my drift. costs were reasonable and all sorted in a couple of weeks brilliant all I have to do is order the number plate.

Good point there Mike, the current GRA requirement to take a bike to an club inspector who is miles away is a crazy situation & one that may deter owners from joining the GRA.
Most other clubs (& indeed the DVLA) allow inspections to be carried out by a recognised motorcycle dealer or MoT station, which I would have thought would be the course of action for the GRA. Maybe something the GRA committee need to discuss, as things are at present there is no incentive to get registrations done through the GRA.

      registration

Last year I had the same issues with a Scott but the Scott OC helped by doing the identification with photographs. When I got my greeves I emailed John Collard but got no reply? So I wrote to him asking what the proceedure was, still no reply so at Shepton I made my presents felt and I met Carol Thatcher who wanted to help brilliant I thought , then I got an apologetic letter from John Collard. In the mean time my neighbour who trials a very trick James has a friend with a Greeves trialer who had just got it registered locally for £49 plus £55 for the dvla so that was music to my ears having enquired the cost of trailer hire at£40 per day. So thats the whole truth and nothing but the truth .

Another thought occured to me is that if the need for this service is now so small then there really is no need for the club to get excited about this it would be an interesting statistic to know how many "new" greeves registrations are being acheived annually?

Have had a look at David Williams web site & it would appear that he is not keen to do recovery of previously registered vehicles via the V765 scheme. He is recommending that you forget about the old number & re register on a new (age related) number. This would not suit everyone as where evidence (old tax disc, log book, MoT cert.) is available most owners would want to recover original number if at all possible. Mr Williams says this can be expensive but dont forget that a new registration carries a £55 fee where as a V765 transaction is free of DVLA charges. Looks like Mr Williams is looking at the easy route & basically doing dating letters like Roy Bacon did. Looks like he has acquired Roy's archives

This from David Williams web site.
          Previously registered vehicle...
You want to get back or retain the old number
If it is pre 1983 and had a UK registration number on it, but is no longer on the DVLA database records, you can get it back.
This requires you to submit a V765 form. However, it is very time consuming and can be very expensive. We recommend you re-register.
Buy service number 1. Get a dating letter from us, a V55/5 form all filled in for you, and advice and help on what to do next.

I have 4 to be inspected - hopefully at Battlesbridge - that will boost the numbers:roll eyes:

On another point - do bikes like the TFS(Import) come under the exempt category from paying ‘first registration fee’.
The DVLA category of exempt vehicles contains 'off road vehicles'?

If you are planning to use the bikes on the public highway you will have apply for an age related registration number & pay a £55 DVLA registration fee on EACH bike & possibly complete a NOVA Certificate (not sure if this applies to vehicles made in UK, exported & brought back as yours, or just foreign made ones). https://www.gov.uk/importing-vehicle...ported-vehicle
May be a good idea to consult David Williams as he specialises in this sort of work, & lists NOVA certification on his web site. http://www.dvlaadvice.co.uk/

The two bikes are having the NOVA forms completed by the guy who put them in his shipping container for me, should have those in a week or so. Once the bikes have been inspected (Battlesbridge?)then I will apply for the registration.

Will the club be able to issue dating certificates? As the bikes were exported & the export dispatch records dont exist it will not be possible to supply a copy of the dispatch record. OK it will be possible to estimate the date by comparing the frame numbers with those in the UK records, they will fit in the gaps, but will DVLA accept this? If not you could find you have to have a a Q plate (issued on vehicles of indeterminable age) & current tax rates would apply, ie not free Historic Tax classification. Maybe Druid can bring us 'up to speed' on that.

Hopefully they will have all the required documents. As Colin mentioned he has one of the last dozen or so UK TFS so I would have thought that the GRA could state that Bikes higher than 400 were export models - Phil has a few on his TFS export list - all above 400 - my latest 631 and the Trail 439 definitely exported to the USA
