I had this inquiry today from a GRA member restoring an East Coaster 25DC mk2
On the foot brake mechanism there is a horizontal tube running across the bike from left to right. On which is welded a small tab with a 5/16" dia. hole. What is this for? Is it for a return spring? What does it look like? Where does it fit?
Had a look at mine & it does not have the 'small tab' only the lever welded at the RH end to connect with brake rod. Can only assume that the tab in question may have been for a return spring as suggested. Mine relies on the brake shoe springs to return the pedal.
Any ideas? Is there a drawing?
