Found these pics of this 20DC special seen at Rivington Hall, Lancashire in July, the photographer John Jocys describes it as "a beautifully restored Greeves fitted with a modified Villiers 197 engine" Nice alloy tank, & Silverstone front hub.

Still not heard anything on this bike or its owner. The photographer John Jocys did not get riders name but thought he came from Leigh in Lancashire.

Thanks Colin, I now think the owner in not the guy sitting on the wall (as in the John Jocys pic) but the younger looking guy standing to the right of him (with his head cut off in pic) wearing a striped jacket, jeans & trainers. That same jacket appears in one taken by Steve Glover.
Nice to see a Greeves ridden to events, & one in 'show' condition at that.

              Moorland Grey?

As a slight aside.....I thought it was interesting to note how the angle of the light changed the colours around in the lower of the two pics in JW's original post (#1) If you look closely, the black tool/battery box under the seat along with the rest of the bike, actually look grey with only the front headlamp cowl and forks appearing blue! Just goes to show......that's the thing with pictures, sometimes.

Also has lots of chrome, engine plates, swinging arm, chain guard & front fork stays. Plus lots of polishing. Maybe owner works at a plating works!!
Plus of course the Silverstone front hub & large alloy tank. Some serious money has been spent on this bike.

                    Greeves special

Lovely bike. I bet the owner is a proud man.
                    A proper special.
How much would that tank cost??

What is the probable engine spec?

                        20DC special

Have now heard from owner a GRA member Dave Kindley of Leigh, the bike started off as a standard 20DC (Villiers 9E 197cc single). Dave has up rated it with a Greeves scrambles alloy barrel & head with full circle flywheels, now out to 250cc, the engine being worked on by Simon Bateman.
Dave has added a Silverstone front hub, bespoke alloy tank, plus lots of chrome, he was inspired by the OBG Special now in Tony East's ARE Museum, the tank is an alloy copy of the OBG one, he also had lots of help and advice from Dave McGreggor who has a similar bike.
Its still being run in but is showing a promising performance. Good to a bike that's ridden & not a 'trailer queen'
