I have recently had the following email from Dick Pelling now in Australia. He is looking for history of a 24RAS Silverstone he owned in the 1960's. He does not quote a frame number (I dont suppose he still has it) I have referred him to Rob, but if there is anyone out there who thinks they may have it, or can help, please get in touch with Dick, his email address is dickandsandy@optusnet.com.au
Hi John.
By way of an intro. I am Ex City of London Police, 1959 before emigrating
with wife to Australia in 67.
As it happens I am an old fart trying to trace the history of my Greeves 24
RAS Silverstone Racer.
Rob Hennessy is my contact who referred me on to you..
I was on the motorcycle wing in the City riding the Greeves on traffic
duties, and was informed by the Greeves Rep that the RAS was about to hit
the market. I contacted my local dealer, Taylor Mattersons in Balham and
negotiated the purchase of possibly, one of the first batch. Cut a long
story I raced it for a couple of seasons and sold it. I was OS at the time
and my parents told me that a Derek Minter had bought it. (that part of the
story I can't verify or believe).
I emigrated in 1967. Now 2014 and 73 years old I am Still hooked on bikes.
I have a Zed 1 Kawasaki for road use a 900ZR I am restoring and a 1962 350
Manx which has just been restored.
Can you help me trace the Greeves please?. I did try but came to a dead
end..
Clues are. Bought 1963? Sold 1965?
Dealer Taylor and Matterson of Bedford road Balham SW Ldn
Regards
Dick Pelling
