  • hi there

My name is Davy and i have been a GRA member for about a year.
I live in County Down in Northern Ireland.
I have two greeves bikes and want to restore them so i need all the help i can get!
    I have a 1961 Scottish and a 1967 250 Silverstone.
The Silverstone is in bits on the workshop floor at the moment and i was hoping that someone on the forum could help me by posting a few photos of how a 250 RES Silverstone should look!!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks
    Davy.

Hi Davy, thanks for making yourself known, and welcome!

Have you registered your Silverstone on the GRA website "list of survivors"? It's straightforward to do. Mind you that feature has been down for maintenance lately...

I'll post some 24RES photos when I get a minute - couple of days maybe?

Cheer Colin, both bikes have been made known to GRA as they dated both of them from frame numbers. Look forward to your pics!!

Here's a couple of RES pics. Sorry the second one isn't too good.

Silver frame, red tank, white fairing, green number background...

Has it got the right gearbox? Albion cambarrel five-speeder?

            Davy,

Regarding colours, I have always used Ford Sunset Red for the tank and Ford Silver Fox for the frame. In the days when Greeves produced them, I don't think paint codes were invented.

There are quite a few engineering drawings in the archive for all variants of Silverstone.

If you would like to send me the frame number, I can add your bike to the the known survivors list on the website.

If you have any questions regarding the bike, I may be able to help.

The book by Derek Pickard, British 250 Racer, has a lot about Greeves in it if you can find a copy somewhere.

            Good luck with the rebuild!

              Thanks for the info Rob.

The frame no. is 24 RES 142. I think she is 1967 vintage.

Does the alloy beam be painted silver or stay "Au Naturale"????

              Cheers
              Davy...

P.S. You are going to be PLAGUED by me for information....(lol)
