    If you want to keep the original footrest assembly (which if it is like my Sept 61 TD will have the brake transverse rod well worn and floppy) just take it off (two bolts) store it and buy a new one to modify. No mods to frame involved which can be seen on many bikes where the footrests have been moved further back. See LL for supplier details. Works for me.

      It doesn't need modifying if it is to be used just for gentle road use. A set of footrest rubbers will be fine.
