How many versions of the hydraulically damped leading link front fork were there, especially with regard to the 'lower link'?

Tony, essentially there were two distinctly different versions. The early Scottish/Hawkstone/early roadster type, straight side plates joined together by a separate loop. Often referred to a lightweight forks, typically models with a ball bearing steering head. The later ‘heavyweight’ fork featured a complete tube loop joint each side together. Typically TES, TFS, early Challengers, later versions of the roadsters, and all of the racers. Within each there were the obvious variations of loop to accommodate particular wheel diameters.
Hope this helps.

Useful info, thanks. My '62 model TD Scottish with the taper roller steering head had the shorter loop (lightweight?) but I found the loop was twisted so bought the longer loop version (heavyweight?) at one of the Telford shows. Fits fine, lot more robust too.Ian Wilkinson '61 Scottish 24TD118
