Sad to report that Joel Robert has lost the fight for life. As a works-supported rider, he rode in England as well as several continental countries well before his fame brought him a works contract with CZ. That was swiftly blessed with a World Championship. Sadly, ill health has dogged him in his later years and although he survived a bout of Covod 19, it left him very weak and his underlying problems were not survivable. RIP Champ.

In 1965, a year before we married, my then fiancée, Pat and I went to a scramble at Brands Hatch. 10 bob to get in. Joel Robert was the star of the show, beating all the top British top riders on his CZ.
