  • Classic bike dealers, be warned

A guy on Greeves Enthusiasts FB page has recently bought a 25DCX from a dealer.
On taking delivery he has found that the tank is leaking, the dealer has refused to consider repairing the tank or replace it saying there is no warranty as its a 'museum piece' This after paying top price of near £5k. He has been advised to take up the matter with trading standards as clearly the bike is not fit for purpose and not road worthy. It would fail an MoT although of course it does not require one. These dealers are really taking the p**s. So the guy now faces the added expense of buying a replacement tank which could be several £100 by the time painting is added, Roger Ennis does not do new tanks for the DCX so finding one is going to be difficult. What happened to good old fashioned dealer service.

As readers may have noticed, pretty much the first thing John and I do when someone starts enquiring about a fibreglass-tanked Greeves is to warn them about the fuel tank issue. After that it's caveat emptor. Don't think much of the dealer's attitude though. He should take it back and refund the price. Trading standards is probably the best way to go. Probably best that we don't get further involved.

With a DCX or a DD the best thing to do, I suppose is find a DB or DC tank and use that.
