Stripped down the primary drive on my EC today to check in condition of final drive sprocket, thats OK for now with still some life left, however I did find that the inner chaincase oil seal had split, this accounting for a long standing oil leak. Unfortunatly these imperial size seals are not readily available at my local bearing stockist (1 5/8 x 15/16 x 5/16) so one coming from VS.
Strange how Villiers used odd sizes in some applications.
Good news is that the primary chain and clutch are in good condition, and the oil that came out of chain case was clean, and despite the faulty oil seal still had plenty in the case.
