I've often wondered why Villiers and then Greeves - Suzuki did too at one time. Understandable for Greeves but what was the thinking behind using that stroke?
AS far as Villiers was concerned, it was just evolution from one series of engine to another. Greeves just copied the dimensions because they were building engines that used Villiers parts. That continued even after they were no longer using Villiers parts but a combination of Alpha and Greeves components. That lasted until the Short stroke 250 Challenger engine came about, as general development tilted towards more squre dimensions. AS for Suzuki, well Industrial Espionage comes to mind!
