hi sorting out bits to build a greeves sprinter for myself , today one of my customers arrived clutching an engine and a big box of bits, he had heard i was looking for an engine so dug through his piles of bits and came up with the motor and lots of spares like bearings ,seals , pistons , even a complete ign system , great but what have i got , the engine no is GPF1/598, i am hoping that one of you can identify and let me know what sort of power i can expect from it , i am thinking of running on methanol as my hillclimb panther uses it, any info is most welcome. will

    Hi Will,

GPF indicates a Griffon engine, but the records we have are a bit sketchy, so I don't know if it's a 250 or a 380. I suspect the size of the 'ole down the barrel might tell you...

    28.5bhp @ 7,500rpm for a 250

    38bhp @ 7000rpm for a twin-port 380.

    44bhp @ 6,750rpm for a single port (QUB) 380

    Factory figures, on petrol.

Anyway others on here will know more.

A GPF1 engine is a 250 Griffon fitted with a Steffa ignition system.
The power output is largely down to the state of the engine, future output is determined by the state of your wallet.
