  • american works riders

Did any of the american based greeves dealerships put out american based works riders, sponsored by the greeves factory in the uk?
I know some of the british riders went over to ride certain events & i believe brian sharp was resident there for a while, but i am unsure as to whether any american rider had full factory support?

    Check out Nicholson Motors ............

Good question Higgo - having stayed out in CA with Kenny - he has shared some of the amazing Greeves racing history out there.....

Nick Nicholson was already a top pro racer (he is in the US MX hall of fame) and bike dealership when he imported all the Greeves to the US - based out of North Hollywood California.

All the Greeves works riders were hired and sponsored by Nick Nicholson - who was the sole US West Coast (Thanks JW!) importer and set up all the other US distributors.

The biggest star was Gary Bailey (US MX hall of fame) top US rider of his day - but just from memory other Greeves works riders were Jim Wilson and Preston Petty - (of plastic mudgueard/fenders fame)

this is Gary Bailey on a griffon at Carlsbad

For the US/European races in 69/70 etc - when Brian Wade and Vic Allen rode Greeves it was all the doing of Nick Nicholson - and for the Californian races - Brian and Vic stayed at Nicks house........OBG and DPC made trips out to Nicholson motors as well !

GRA members are all welcome by Kenny on his Nicholson Motor's facebook page - and he also encourages then to the GRA

Nick was not the sole importer for Greeves to USA, Randy Wilson imported them for the East coast.

          Gary Bailey - Griffon 250

SO in the same year Wild Wade won the UK 250cc mx championship on a Griffon - Gary Bailey must have won the Interam at Budds Creek - The ones that Brian Wade and Vic Allen competed on Greeves . This picture is taken by his motor home for his travelling MX school

We dug this cool piece of moto history that Gary Bailey had on display in front of his motorhome.

In 1973 Nick Nicholson became sole US distributor - but had nothing much to sell!

Randy Wilson was East Coast distributor, however the last one that side was Jeckell Industries.
