Greeves Business
Stuart. Not having seen the advert, I presume this is the Greeves Business that's for sale http://www.greevesmotorcyclesltd.com/bikes.html
Strange there is nothing about it being for sale on their web site.

i`m not an accountant....but!
The trading figures show a net worth of minus -£63000, so you could probably buy it for a pound.Last edited by dave higgins; 01/10/2014, 02:10 PM.

Richard Deal is (was?) indisputably the legitimate owner of both and has a perfect right to sell them.

Slightly off-thread but nonetheless relevant. Neither wishing to proliferate or fuel any particular fire I offer some historical clarity.
When Richard Deal came on the scene the committee of the day were rightly concerned at his actions. But as Colin has already said he has done nothing wrong, save for some rather sharp practice. The Greeves Motorcycles Limited registered mark of the greeves signature logo is a rather weedy version of what we all know and love. The club was assured in writing by Mr Deal that we could continue to use it in support of the marque and furtherance of the club.
At the time there were some rather heavy trade mark ownership/rights cases in the courts. Particularly with Triumph, and Norton. Both these marques continue to this day to pursue any unauthorised use of the registered trade marks.
The asking price does seem rather high. Would be purchasers are only getting the name, stock, & good will. Certainly no premises.
Thankyou
Phil

Getting back to the point made in the original post by Stuart. The sale of Greeves Motorcycles. I think the fact that the business is up for sale shows the waining interest in Greeves. Obviously Richard Deal is finding trade difficult & unprofitable, very few of his replica Anglian's were built, & his attempt at building a modern Greeves Trials bike failed with the project being sold to a Dutch concern. What happened to it with them?
One wonders how much longer other companies such as Villiers Services will continue. VS were looking to reproduce Greeves parts, (roadster headlamp shells, exhaust pipes etc) but found insufficient interest/customers to make up the batch sizes required to make production viable. In recent years hundreds of small firms have sprung up on the back of the classic bike scene, many more will go out of business as the interest in old bikes wains. You don t need an expensive engine or gearbox rebuild to keep a bike as a static museum piece.
Sign of the times I am afraid as aired on other threads.

Richard deal might have helped himself a bit more, if he didn`t sound so damn uninterested....to the point of being rude, when answering the phone!!!!!!
Also, he made you feel like he was doing you a favour by ripping you off.....sorry...i meant charging a high price for very ordinairy parts.....but i`m not gonna keep moaning on about it.............and another thing!..............
