  • Greeves geometry

Carrying on from a new members thread where the subject of altering frames to suit today's riding styles and courses.

Accepting that there is little to be done to a Greeves beam in terms of head angle, the only scope for change lays with suspension, wheelbase and front fork.

Longer rear suspension units will quicken the steering regardless of front fork type. In both scrambles and trials the rear wheel will remain in contact with the ground for longer (better drive and braking). Combine with banana forks fitted with longer units and you now have better ground clearance and a near to constant wheelbase. Greeves rubber forks give similar wheelbase constants albeit with more limited wheel travel.

Yes Phil, all understood, but it all depends on what is acceptable to the Trial Organiser. I seem to remember that Bananas were not allowed in the Pre-65 Scottish as "they are not in period". Blind eyes are turned to lots of things, but if the bike is forced to use rubber forks, Greeves riders are stuck with what they have, rather than a wide range of fiddle equipment to put inside their teles..
