Dave Bickers started experimenting with spring dampers on leading link forks in the last months of 1964. Development by works riders continued into 1965, though at first they had straight fork legs. The true "banana" shape had evolved by mid '65 and the production version found its way onto Challengers later that year.

Bananas were standard wear on the 24MX3 Challenger and the 24THS Anglian in 1966

Similar forks were used a long time before either greeves or Hercules used them. They were no good until the advent of decent hydraulic units were produced!

        Bananas

Greeves experimented with a spring damper type front fork in 1964. Bryan Wade rode a Challenger with straight banana prototype forks. These provided the geometry for the production items. Which, as previous threads have described. It took quite a few goes to get it right!

Bananas were also fitted to the export Griffon.
