  • Couple of Greeves at Shepton Mallett on 4th November

One a Scottish with odd looking exhaust, and the other an NSU Greeves. Were they members bikes? (pics from 'geoff the bonnie' on IKBA)

The Scottish has a sidecar attached, not obvious from that photo, and looked like it had an AMC bottom end with Villiers barrel and head. A bit 'Marmite' but nicely put together. It was a good jumble, quite a lot of Greeves stuff and a couple of reasonably priced 2T powered road bike projects, Norman and Ambassador.

Yes looks like a Villiers 1H 225cc top end, but with AMC bottom end both use same mountings as the 2T/3T but heavy and gutless, Greeves never fitted either engine in a production bike. Francis Barnett & James used the AMC and 1H in road bikes, there was also a 2H (246cc) but they are very rare.

I wonder if the Scottish could be this one seen also at Shepton in 2020 cant be many around with 1H or 2H engines and in Somerset https://www.greeves-riders.org.uk/fo...n-mallet-today

I have since heard that both bikes are owned by Steve Cridge (not sure if h is a GRA member). The sidecar outfit with AMC/Villiers 1H engine is a 1960 24TCS, quite a lot of engineering required to fit the Villiers top end onto an AMC 25T bottom end. The NSU engined bike a 1961 24SCS Hawkstone frame.

Steve Cridge now has the sidecar outfit for sale, he is asking GBP 3250.
