  • Malcolm Davis - Sometime Scrambler

This film features Malcolm Davis, riding an AJS Stormer in the 1970 round of the 250 Motocross championship in Italy. The only other member of the British Team is Brian Wade riding a Greeves Griffon.
It has the usual asinine commentary but is well worth watching.

Malcolm Davis was three times British champion, on AJS and Bultaco machinery, and on his day was a match for the legends of the sport, always a front runner ...

Hi john boy, gary, superb footage, but the lead guitarist strangeling a tune from his two string axe in the opening disco sequence, was quite painfull.
Prehaps his flares were to tight!!...
Brian wade & malcom were superb, but it was great to see two of the best legends of mx in the same race, one toward the end of his career, the awsome joel robert & the rising future star, rodger de coster. great stuff, but only my opinion, find some more john...

What an interesting bit of footage that was, its surprising where they keep digging them up from.

I liked the course marking post !! a bit of tape sometimes, Mr Elf and Safety today would have gone into a cardiac arrest.

Hope these films will keep turning up

A great film! I was quite impressed with the power of the Griffon charging up those steep long climbs. Pretty impressive that Bryan's works Griffon was 30+ pounds heavier than the mega bucks works Suzuki's.

            Wotcha Dave,

Well spotted, but technically speaking the problem was that his 'G' string was in fact too tight......

Here's another one having similar issues.....

By the way, the pink Telecaster and tassled jacket were borrowed, ok.....?! Strewth, I didn't even know I was supposed to be 'performing' until about 20 minutes before this pic was originally taken....

Great film John, thanks for posting it.

& i`ll have to reply back.

A big welcome back to Brian, a former big wheel on the gra commitee, ( his words, not mine. )...
Brian, as well as being an over helpfull greeves specialist!, also fronted a five piece rock band, ( see previous pic ).
Although the " truffles " achieved moderate success, Brian went solo & over a twelve week career, produced several acclaimed pieces of work!
Prehaps most famous for his guitar solo on the intro to the famous tv series " the clangers ".
Sorry, have i wanderd off thread a bit...., good to see you on the forum again mate!. dave.

Quite right too Dave/JR, and apologies to John for the thread hi-jack....

And Dave, thanks for your kind words but the word was LOOSE (not big,) wheel (like the words of the song..."ya picked a fine tyme ta leave me loosewheel"), I am not and never have been a 'specialist' (but I have been sent to a few,obviously.....we discuss my 'over helping issues'....!), my solo career lasted 12 HOURS (not weeks), but don't forget that we wrote and recorded over fourteen triple disc 'concept albums' in that time! I remember people being shocked at how long we had spent..... I HAD to take that Clangers job though mate....they said they'd give me my own Soup Dragon....!

Well JR, a 'return of the inevitable' could be on the cards....and I just may have a suitable subject.....

                Brian.

WATCH OUT, FOLKS ............... (especially Dave?)!!!

With humblest apologies to John A (It's all Dave's fault, John-Boy)

Ooh, love the sound of a Telecaster!
                    Who was the band, Brian?

Sorry for continuing to drift off topic!

                      Band? We should've been.....!

                      Hi Andy,

The band...? Nothing special really (well...it depends on what you mean by 'special'....! )) It was just a 'get on' with a bunch of mates who had a classic rock covers band and were playing at the venue we'd all arranged to meet up at.

I was with my girlfriend sat at the bar with a group of friends when I found out that the band had planned it all out, including Barry (drummer) selecting the jacket seen in the pic from his extensive stage wear collection ('80's big hair poodle rock era!)....thanks Barry! The 'Pink Paisly' Tele was offered up by an ex student of mine, along with an overdrive pedal and then off we went...all Guns and Roses....no pressure then!

                      Good memories!

(Thanks again for your forbearence John.)

Was the band also known as "Creme Brulee"?
