  • Villiers engine number

    Hi,
I have a Villiers engine no. 863B-190. It came to me with a '59 Scottish frame but as far as I can tell it is not the original engine, although the logbook dated '69 shows this engine. I was hoping someone with the right books could let me know if this is the case and or what it may have been in? Not too worried about it, just interested.
    Many thanks, Charlie

Villiers engine prefix 863B was a 9E fitted to 1955-67 Cotton Trials and 32A fitted to 1960-65 Greeves 24TCS, TDS, TD & TE
(Info from Villiers Everybodys Engine by Carrick)
So if its a 32A then it would have been fitted to Greeves but by the looks of it a later model.

      engine no.

      Thank you John,
It is a 32A so good to know it likely came from a later bike. I imagine it was quite common for engines to be swapped rather than repaired when there were probably plenty about at the time.
      Thanks again for you rhelp,
      Charlie
