  • Greeves Scottish 197 9E - Carb Query

As my Greeves Scottish is an unknown quantity I thought it would be prudent to check out the carburettor that is fitted.
It is a monoblock 376. I have been looking through my library of books as to what the correct main and pilot jet should be and I am getting conflicting advice.
What should the carburettor settings and jets be?

It would have started life with a Villiers carburettor, so if originality is important you've got the wrong one. If not, I'll leave it to others to advise on jets etc.

I am not to concerned on originality - much prefer to get the bike up and running. I have just checked the carb now that it is back from being cleaned by ultrasound. The main jet is 105 and the pilot check is 25.

for Amal 376 on Greeves 197 MX 1958-60

        Needle jet .106

As Colin has stated, the trials bike should have a Villiers carb. Settings for this are:

        Main jet 120
        Pilot jet 35
        Needle taper 3 1/2
        Needle Set out 1.95 inches
        Throttle slide 3
