  • Grumph rear sprocket size (trials)

    Folks,
putting triumph 500 in Greeves frame but first of all need to sort out alignment.........engine and rear wheel. At present don't have a rear sprocket-what size of sprocket do you (all!) suggest for trials-type plodding?
    thanks

If gearbox has standard ratios, for modern trials 16t engine, 15t gearbox, 50t rear wheel should be about right. These would all be special trials sprockets, suggest you give Dave Varley at D & C Classics in Keighley a ring. Do remember though, he likes to rev 'em. If you do want to plod use the standard Triumph 26t engine sprocket instead of the special 16t

      Trials Gearing

16T engine sprocket is the way to go. The combination of engine and rear sprockets depends on how brave you want to be.

D&C have both engine and gearbox sprockets. I run a 16/54 combination that allows nice slow speeds in first. For big climbs use second with lots of revs. Just let it go and hang on!!!
