Whats the thread on the cylinder head sleeve bolts? I have a stripped one. Anyone any thoughts on helicoiling? Peter.

It's a very fine thread, can't remember if it's BST or cycle thread. I replaced the stud in the crank case with a whitworth one on both ends and helicoiled to suit

It should be 5/16" 18 TPI (BSW). Don't overtighten them, 24 ft/lb is recommended.

It stripped at 15ft/lb, I had done them up as i thought right then checked with the torque wrench at 10, then 15. Oos!

My mistake it should have 22 ft/lb, they certainly shouldn't have stripped at 15!

Aren't the Whitworth threaded sleeve bolts identified with a small groove machined around the hex head while the earlier fine thread bolts do not have the groove?
