  • VS finally perfected electronic ignition for Villiers twins

    This video from facebook https://www.facebook.com/steve.golli...5803327573955/
    Steve Gollings writes;-
Finally sorted electric ignition for twins. This is the prototype up and running.
Starts first kick, charges great and it fits with no machining at all.
    Should be available January.

The one in the video is fitted to a 4T engine

Who will be the first to purchase and test? I wonder if the newer system will unlock some extra power from a twin engine?

Its unlikely to give anymore power, a spark is just a spark after all. The main advantage would be the better starting and also the better lights IF its a 12 volt system. I presume its an Electrex World system and there have been bad reports on their lighting set up on the 30A series singles, with some owners reporting that the system does not give enough power to light the bulbs. I wont be rushing out to buy one, as although my bike could sometimes have better starting it goes well enough once its running, and the charging & lighting work as Villiers intended.

Anyone intending to purchase an electronic conversion would be advised to read this thread on the Francis Barnet owners forum. Problems it seems with lighting output. This would have been on the single cylinder system but presumably the lighting/charging coil would be the same or similar in the twin set up. Looks like there is insufficient output to power the bulbs http://fboc.niceboards.org/t4962-eel...-lighting-coil
