  • Exhaust attachment to barrel

Just had a great CRMC meeting at Pembrey and my RDS went well. However, the two bolts holding the Abcon exhaust stub to the barrel fell out - no lock-wire! What's the best way to attach - bolts or studs and what is the thread please? Do people use a gasket, Hylomar or what to help seal it? Brands hatch next so don't want a repeat. Advice welcome.

I believe they would normally be 2 course threaded studs with deep nuts that are cross drilled for wiring. Sounds like you have the common problem of stripped threads in the alloy barrel, so hellicoil, alloy or brass inserts then re-drilled to suit, all things we have done in the past.

Luckily the threads are not stripped - so I just need to get my hands on the studs and deep nuts but ASAP as the Brands Hatch meeting is only a couple of weeks away. Do Villiers Services supply? It would be handy to know the thread size please.

1/4 whit is the original size but quite a lot are drilled out oversized.
Gary has the 1/4 deep nuts drilled for wiring.
Villiers do the 13/4 copper gaskets

You welcome 1340fxd, top man Gary and he is a GRA member. Lots of Greeves parts on the web site and more in the process of manufacture. https://www.britishbikes1970.com/ also does rebuilds etc. If you cant find what you want on the web site, give Gary a call, he may well have other parts not listed.
