  • Sprockets.

    Good evening.
I am going to order a Gearbox and rear wheel Sprocket from Villiers services along with some other bits To Put the 24TCS on the road, as mentioned in other posts.
Still Unsure the best Teeth combination to order.
I have a after market chain tensioner .
Does it matter to gearing, the size of gearbox in relation to rear wheel.
Guessing the smaller Gearbox may wear quicker than a larger one ?
The Area I live is quite hilly.
    Thanks for comments once again.

Overall gearing will be affected, of course, by the number of teeth on the gearbox sprocket. The smaller the gearbox sprocket, the lower the overall gearing will be.

      Thanks John.
Going full road trim, On Historic Australian Rego.
So road gearing, for hilly roads.

"Full road trim" implies road-bike gearbox internals.
What internal ratios do you have in your existing box ........... presumably those for wide ratio 32A?
Wide ratio box with standard 24TCS external gearing should be good for road work .......... After all, the 24TCS was originally set up for road travel between trials sections ........... ?
All a job to know without knowledge of the road conditions you have, of course.
        Good luck, sorting.

          Thanks John.
Wide ratio Gear box. Std primary. Do have Close ratio cluster but will leave as is.
My roads are as old English back roads 40 years ago.

I still live amongst those old English back roads, whitehillbilly. They have hardly changed in the past 40 years, and a whole lot further back than that ...................... thankfully!

            Take care on yours!

More to the point, I always felt comfortable riding the country roads on a 24TCS on standard (albeit wide ratio) gearing back in the day.

That why my 77 Series 3 is my daily driver. Perfect roads.
Found old posts, and On JW's advice ordered a rear 46T and a 16T gearbox.
              See how that works out.
              Thanks again.
