Just stripped the wheels on my 62 sports-twin with paddle-drums & the rear has just spokes, but on the front every spoke in the small-flange has a washer presumably to stop the spoke-head from passing through the holes, not so on the rear & the hubs seem the same, is there any reason for this??
I've stripped both wheels so I can paint the hubs, tart up the paddles & fit a new rim to the front.

Think you may have answered your own question there, modelman. As I understand it, washers were more usually fitted on a wheel intended for competition use.

Many thanks for that, I think i'll re-fit them when the new rim arrives just to be on the safe side.

All good, the replacement rim & spokes just came, much bigger heads on the stainless spokes so no washers will be required.
