How many Greeves actually get ridden?

According to the DVLA https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/make/greeves there are about 200 Greeves licenced for the road, and another 180 odd on SORN. Ok this will not account for scrambles bikes which of course are not road registered, and of course the opportunity to ride a scrambler is slim as there are few events catering for them (and of course curtailed at the moment) So unless you have a private field or practice ground they cant be ridden.

So this leaves us with the road and trials bikes which of course are, or can be road registered. According to the survivors list there are around 1250 roadsters and trials bikes listed (and loads more still out there currently unknown), But even so 200 is a small percentage, but it would appear its increasing year on year, so an encouraging sign.

Another thing is that bikes don't seem to stay with one owner for long, many both on here, eBay, and other sales sites being seen changing hands regularly. Many as we know are being sold by dealers (both Kosher and back yard cowboys) at inflated prices.

It would also appear that many owners just buy a bike as something to keep in the garage or house to just look at, and others bought as basket cases for a project in the shed. Sadly lots of these also quickly go back on eBay once the cost of parts and specialised services like painting, wheel & engine rebuilding become known.

Just for the record, I have had my East Coaster for 20 years, its always kept taxed and insured and I try to ride it at least once a week for a trip of around 20 miles or more, (I have been for a 30 mile ride this morning) I am in my late 70's but still fit & enjoy the riding aspect, when I cant ride, the bike will be sold, as I see it bikes are for riding, not ornaments. Other views welcome.

Well done john, I'm building another MX4 to race.

I have the frame and now hunting for bits.

I'll phone you with the frame number when she has wheels and an engine (both work in progress)!

      Good morning.
I have had my 1960 Greeves Scottish for 25 odd years. It first outings were competing in Trails, Then a few years, fully road registered, used daily rider. Now back as a Trial Bike, and once lock down is over, our trials season will begin.

I ride my 32DC on our VMCC local runs and we have others with a 25DC and Scottish who regularly ride with us. I took my bike to the Isle of Man last year and did some runs with the Manx VMCC region on it. One day I went out before practice started on it to find somewhere to watch. There was a delay because of some fog on the mountain.so I carried on round. I ended up doing a full lap with spectators at all of the corners. In the end I watched the practice from the campsite from where I started.

        Brian.
