  • Bonhams at Stafford October

Could be a cheap starter project.
One of the most popular of all off-road specials, the Greeves-Triumph (or 'Tri-Greeves') has become established as a marque in its own right. Although Greeves' chassis was widely recognised as among the best, there were many riders unwilling to put up with the two-stroke's sometimes wayward temperament. The obvious solution was to fit a four-stroke engine; Triumph's compact 350cc twin was a relatively easy fit and rapidly became the unit of choice. Purchased in March 1977, this incomplete example is powered by a 1963 Triumph Tiger 90 engine, which is mounted in an unidentified Greeves frame (the number is not a factory stamping). There are no documents with this Lot, which is offered for restoration and sold strictly as viewed.

      The sum of the parts.............

A nice low guide price maybe. Not really convinced that there are internals in the Triumph engine. Externally in poor shape. New parts are expensive if you can get them. Used parts get rarer by the day. Not for me.

The other issue prospective buyers need to take on board is that it will be difficult to get this road registered without a Greeves frame number. It would have to go through the 'single vehicle approval' a long drawn out process, and probably end up on a Q plate so no free tax and possibly difficulty in getting it insured.
