Is the club organising a stand at Battlesbridge on Sunday?

  • #2
Future of Battlesbridge Bike Show seems to be in doubt. This year's show likely to be reduced in scope due to…………… no Pre 65 scrambles demo; date clashes now with Greeves Championship round at Woodford (Northants).

If Battlesbridge does close Lodge Coaches of High Easter may be interested in running a Classic Bike show, they already run some classic car shows and I am sure Andrew Lodge would be interested, I know him well and could ask him. We need to maintain a presence in Essex.
So back to my initial question, are the club there this Sunday?

Or perhaps switch allegiance to the Copdock Bike Show, already well supported by the Pre 65 MX Club and several other classic bike clubs. Has a broader appeal than most bike shows, and all for charity.
Ipswich is close enough to Essex, after all (?)
Sorry, no idea what is happening on Sunday, John, although Leading Link does list Battlesbridge on 7th July as a "forthcoming GRA attended event"..

Not Copdock again, Robert Brown used to fly the flag for the club there some years ago, was alright till it moved to Ipswich Showground and officious new management took charge, and Robert gave up on it. Copdock insist on pre booking and charging the exhibitors. Battlesbridge just turn up on a classic bike and you go in free through out the day. Anyway Copdock Show is in Suffolk not Essex Greeves own county
Thing about Battlesbridge its a lower key not full blown classic show like the Mortons & Copdoick Shows. Much more friendly

            Only a suggestion, John.
Not sure that Mortons and Copdock Shows offer similar appeal, though. Copdock, in my (limited?) experience, seems to have broader family appeal.
And Suffolk is, after all, Dave Bickers country!
            Any other views, out there?

Yes, the GRA will be having a stand at Battlesbridge again this year! No need to pre-book, just turn up with a bike and head for the exhibitor's entrance which is in by the railway station and they will let you in.

Last year's show was very good albiet, possibly too hot, ok if you run an ice cream van.

Apart from the Essex gang, there is always a useful autojumble plus plenty of bikes to look at.

I think it is the casual atmosphere of the whole thing that makes it what it is.

If you are in the area, make sure you don't miss it!

A very poor turn out of Greeves at Battlesbridge today only 7 compared with over 20 in previous years. The show was on a restricted site this year, approx 1/2 what it was and no scrambles/grass track demo track. Apparently the owner is selling off some of the ground for re development. Never the less there was the usual good turn out of bikes in general. Sad that Greeves were not better represented in their own county
The seven bikes that were present were
1961 24TDS Scottish (61/1453) Chris Davis, Earls Colne, Essex
1968 24TDS Scottish (61/1389) Mick Wall, Rayleigh, Essex which has been converted to scrambles spec
1962 25DC Sports Twin (25DC239) Richard Brown, Basingstoke
1967 Silverstone (24RES140 Mick Wall, Rayleigh
1968 Wessex (24TJ207) Mick Wall, Rayleigh converted to Anglian spec with alloy top end.
                  1966 Anglian (24TGS178) Rob Thornton
1965 East Coaster (25DC361B) John Wakefield

It was hard work getting to the right place to unload at the Show due to the layout changes! Luckily, we got to the bit on the flowchart where the miracle occurs quite quickly and were soon set up. Despite the somewhat cramped conditions compared to previous years, we had a good time. I thought the autojumble haad more in it this year than previously and was worth the trip for that alone.

This show was on/off due to the sale of land that it probably left people wondering if it was on or not. This may well have explained why there were not that many Greeves on parade! However, we were there with sail flags flying in the breeze!
