  • tank wanted in exchange for restored complete wheel

    Hi all
I am a wheel builder in Essex, Willis Wheels. I am after a round type Scottish tank, w.h.y. Or I can build in exchange a front wheel paddle hub in exchange like the one in the picture with stainless spokes and chrome or aluminium rim
    all the best

Everybody is after one of those, I'm afraid. It will cost you a lot more than a rebuilt wheel. I have been quoted over £700!.I can only suggest holtworks, but they are alloy, about £500.

Wasn't expecting a new one Martin and I certainly wouldn't even pay £500 for a new one.
was looking at a reasonable one in exchange for a good wheel
      hub £60
      refurb £55
      butted stainless spokes £85
      aluminium rim £130
      wheel build £50

so think I was being realistic

Chris, I paid £110 for one that looks like someone has been practicing their hammer skills on. Quoted £300 to get the dents out, then there's the cost of replating. They are really hard to get hold of, and everyone seems to be after them.Good luck hunting one down, Martin.

The world has gone mad, and its all down to Greedbay, People pulling rusty bits out of sheds that a few years would have gone in a skip, they now think they have the crown jewels.
Its now moving to Jap parts also with prices rocketing and making what were cheap bikes uneconomic to rebuild. Where its going to end? you tell me, but I think some people are going to be getting burnt fingers.
Prior to Greedbay and the internet, parts were traded between mates and club members for the price of a drink, but not anymore.

Yes John, and the sooner there is access to the drawings, the sooner we can make our own parts. Are there any drawings for a Scottish tank?.

                Hi Martin,
There is no problem with access to the drawings, but drawings do not exist for everything. Just send an email to Rob requesting what you need, and if he can find the relevant drawing, I'm sure he will send it to you.

Try googling "Motorcycledentremoval " , in Pickering specialises in dent removal for bikes, might make the difference between scrap and useable, damn site cheaper than a new one.I have no connection but he will be doing a tank for me very soon.

To my knowledge there are no useable tank drawings. The steel and alloy tanks were bought out items hence not drawn. Even the in house GRP tanks were only ever drawn as a silhouette.
