Hi the piston is cast with those holes and seem to correspond with ports in the barrel

Maybe aftermarket piston for go kart racing, I am sure original Villiers ones never had these holes.

The inlet and exhaust side skirts are different lengths too, shorter one on the inlet side at a guess, to clear higher/bigger port? Had to do similar when fitting an Ajax barrel, but haven't seen the hole in the side before, extra transfer port perhaps. Interesting.

Does it match anything on your barrel, it's a 3rd transfer port, needs to match a grove in the barrel, done right should get power increase and cools underside of piston, less seizing up.

Hi it has two ports in the barrel that would line up with these holes it also has stuffers and a skimmed head

Yes common practice, build it, should be ok, but power may be high up rev range, not a trials engine depends what you want it for.
