Just like the Can=Am, except that bike is Right Hand Drive with the stand on the left. The other slight difference is that the Can-Am is oil in frame.

How do I tell a Starmaker engine from an AJS Stormer ?
I have got a 1967 engine(dated it from age mark on alloy flywheel/generator rotor.
stripped it right down:
conrod has circular hole at top not a slit.
exhaust has two threaded sleeves not bolted on
inlet stub is cast into barrel not bolt on
barrel has four stud holes not six
piston rings have steps at the end so they cover the pegs in the ring grooves.
the clutch has six plates(or five ?)
i am fitting electrex world ignition as Ive got this on my Greeves Scottish and its reliable.
Anyone know ?
There are numbers cast into the barrel and con rod and pistons if that helps.
cheers
steve

The easiest way of telling the difference between the Starmaker and Stormer motors is the barrel finning.
Wide spaced on the Starmaker, and finer on the Stormer.
Some photos of both engines for reference. You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 4 photos.4 Photos

Thanks for that info. My engine looks like the top right and bottom left photos i.e there is are two vertical gaps between the cooling fins.
so that means its a Starmaker ?
any idea how to tell if its a mark 1 or mark 2 ?
And could barrels be swapped between a stormer and a Starmaker ?
thanks
steve
