  • Gearing for road use

Can I make my standard TE250 more road friendly (ie higher gearing and conscequent road speed just by changing the rear sprocket and if so could someone advise as to what (tooth or sprocket) size I would need. Don't really want to change the gearbox sprocket if possible to cut down on labour, also, if someone knows where I could buy a road-friendly sprocket that would bolt on I'd be most grateful

This thread covers same subject, http://www.greeves-riders.org.uk/for...gearing+trials any sprocket manufacturer as listed in OBM etc should be able to supply a sprocket if you make a paper pattern of the hole centre and fixing bolts of existing one. You may of course find one on eBay

I stuck a road rear sprocket (not sure of teeth number) on the Ranger and it purrs along at 50mph (with more left).
It does need changing down on hills as it tends to struggle to keep the revs.

I bought my last sprocket from http://www.sprocketsunlimited.com
