  • Peter Watkin RIP

Peter Watkin the Southend Greeves dealer who supplied the Southend Water Company 24DB's & 20DC's has died, sadly before I could talk to him about the water company bikes. It did look like he suffered from dementia though, so probably would not have remembered them.
This report from the Southend Echo, his funeral is on the 19th January

Peter WATKIN of Palmeira Mansions passed peacefully on the evening of 18th December 2017 Aged 87 years. The funeral will be held at Southend Crematorium at 15:00 on Friday 19th January, 2018. Family flowers only with donations to Dementia UK - https://www.dementiauk.org/ or c/o S. Stibbards & Sons Ltd, 7 Spa Road, Hockley, SS5 4AZ Tel: 01702 206222

      Built for speed

Peter Watkin was the owner / builder of probably the first Greeves Triumph scrambler as featured in the 60's book Built For Speed

        built for speed

That particular bike was built by a chap named Bill Inglis. He subsequently sold it to Peter who changed a few things. As far as I know this was the first Triumph/Greeves.
