  • Scottish fixed footrests

Am I right in thinking that original fixed footrests are a no-no and not allowed. I don't like the idea of changing mine to folding as it compromises the integrity in my opinion. Are there any exceptions when I could enter a trial with my bike as it is with the fixed footrests

They are folding for a reason I bought a reproduction foot peg assembly of Dave Harrison (Leading Link) and chopped that and had folding pegs welded on.
That way you have the original if you ever need it - though I doubt you would ever put the original back on.

The original fixed footrest are fine for a show bike or gentle road riding. Off Road work, trials and green laning requires fold up footrest to avoid nasty injuries to legs and ankles.

Tony - modifying original type footrest system

Do you have any pictures of what you did as I would like to do the same to my '62 model 24TD which still has the original rigid footrests. Dont want to weld brackets onto the frame like others I have seen.
Any other thoughts from people who have done similar jobs much appreciated.

          I got SM universal ones.
Cut off solid ones and welded to end of rod.
          Can take some pics tomorrow.
My 115kg have swung off them no problems.

            24TD footrests

A photo of what you have done would be brilliant, many thanks. Only been a member of this Association since I bought the bike last December and the help that is given is just brilliant - must be the best owners association in the world!

                  24TD footrests

Tony - brilliant many thanks, picture says a thousand words. I take it the new footrests are large enough to act as a stop for the kick start to replace the knobbly bit on the 24TD footrest.

                    Same as Tony's.
My RH side has spring removed, so can raise to kick over cold.
Starts downward stroke to foot peg, when warm.

Thanks to everyone for the advice and the pictures - extremely helpful. Will try to get a replacement footrest system to modify.

                        Greeves Foot Pegs

                        Dragged the bikes out today.
Looks like I drilled and tapped a M6 thread.
Fastened foot peg, will a allen bolt to get the angle correct then welded up.
                        Probably Sammy Miller Universal ones.

                            24TD footrests

Thanks for such great photos WHB. That really is a plan. Did wonder how the angle of the pivot would be sorted out.
Just need to get the carburation sorted now!

                              What Carby, what problems?
I run a Villiers S25, with a STD air cleaner. Pretty simple.
Wear is the bore, seems to be the only issue.
Sure some one it the UK could put SS liners in them. Maybe a brake specialist.
Plenty of new bits available from Villiers Services.
