  • Did anyone in the club buy this at Bonhams Banbury auction 6/14

    Just came across this http://www.bonhams.com/auctions/21749/lot/38/
This was badly researched by Bonhams, its a 25DB frame (59/2892) with a 1H engine (411A3847). So not a 24DB single project as stated. Was cheap enough at £517 though

    25DB frame 59/2892 with 1H engine

This has resurfaced in Leicester on eBay, still a 25DB frame with 1H engine. Looks like someone has 'nailed' a few more bits to it

      Greeves bike

Be nice to me. I've just bought it off a chap
In Leicester. I will prob take the 1H engine out and fit something a
      Bit more in keeping.
What I will do is get it running and back on/off the road!
We can't all afford Hawkstones with starmaker engines !

The 1H is a nice road engine and it uses the same engine plates as a 2T

              The 225cc eBay Roadster

Started stripping it down today. Good job I did as coil plate
Behind generator was not fitted with the four bolts it should have
and none of the 6 studs/nuts to hold crankcase halves together were present.

On the plus side compression seems ok and gears select.
And the chap at villiers services will be able to go on holiday this year as I am just about to put an order in.

There's a bit of footpeg welding bodgery to be removed.
And I replaced the three (!) bolts holding rear sprocket onto the rear wheel
with 5 new ones, and cleaned the brakes at the same time.
              Plenty still to do !
              Steve

                  eBay roadster

I am not sure it is a roadster now as it doesn't have
the welded on frame extensions for the rear foot pegs.
So the frame looks like a trials bike minus the bolt on
                  Vertical bracing.
How do I find out the dispatch records for the bike ?
                  I know frame is 59/2892
And that it has the "wrong" villiers 1H engine.
                  any advive welcome!!!
                  Steve

Update: it is a Roadster frame with the pillion foot peg
Attachments removed. The lovely man from vmcc has inspected
It so should get paperwork for dvla soon.

Steve - assuming you are not already a member of the GRA, my best advice would be to join now! You will get 13 months membership for the price of 12 as the year runs from June.

You will then have acess to the works depatch records and engineering drawings if you need to make parts. Then there is the bi-monthly Leading Link magazine now in full colour!

Frame number 59/2892 is in a batch of 25DB roadster numbers, the 25DB had the 2T twin with same engine plates/mounting as the 1H, so that tallies. I dont have dispatch records but as Rob says that can be obtained after you have joined the club. The pillion footrests could have been cut off or unbrazed & ground smooth. Or a trials rear sub frame could have been fitted to the roadster beam. Petrol tank is from a roadster.

                          224cc Greeves

Further to my purchase and on going renovation of a
Greeves Sports with a Villiers 1H engine I came across an article
In "The Motor Cycle" dated 14 August 1956 of a Red Rose Trial
with a bike ridden by J M Simpson listed as a "224cc Greeves"
So maybe possibly mine isn't the only Greeves in the world
                          with a 224 cc engine !

Ex Bonhams auction bike now on the road

Thanks for all the help and assistance.
My extremely rare 225cc Greeves Sports
Now has a V5C, and is insured.
so another one lives on !

(Rare as in not well done, it's a standing joke
About the look of my bikes but I think patina is nicer than shiny bits)
