  • Sale of Pete Lasota's Memorabilia

    Pete Lasota's ISDT memorabilia is up for auction at the end of July.

    See: www.dahauctions.com

    Here is their write up:

    Insight into memorabilia included in the 31st July Classic Car & Motorbike Auction

    Peter James Lasota (18th May 1935 – 7th August 2011), was a career Army soldier with the Royal Signals Corp, who was an ardent motorcycle trialist and was able to combine the two as the Army always provided teams and back up for the International Six Day Trials.
    His trialling career began whilst stationed in Malaysia in the late 1950’s, but really took off on his return to the UK with two and three day trials in Wales and Scotland before becoming part of the British ISDT team from the early 1960’s through to 1970.
    The ISDT is the oldest 'off road' motorcycle event on the Federation of International Motorcycling’s calendar. It was first held in 1913 at Carlisle and has occurred annually, apart from interruptions due to WWI and WWII, at various locations throughout the world. The early events were a true test of machine, rider skill, and reliability. Over the six days and upwards of 1250 miles a rider must contend with strict rules about time allowances and restrictions on mechanical replacements, carrying out his or her own motorcycle repairs.
    Usually referred to as the 'Olympics of Motorcycling' with trophies for best six-rider national, four-rider junior national, three-rider women's national, three-rider club national and three-rider manufacturing teams. Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded on an individual level. The medals are typically awarded based on percentage of finishers, or relative to the best individual performance in the event within their specific class. Individual gold medals go to participants who finish within 10% of their class' top competitor's total elapsed time, silver medals are awarded for those who finish within 25%, and bronze medals are awarded to any rider who finishes all six days within their time allowance.
    Included in the auction is memorabilia from Pete’s competitions such as the;

    40th International Six Day Trial, which took place on the Isle of Man, from the 20 - 25th September 1965, a competitor’s badge (251) together with a contemporary photograph of Lasota wearing it, and a Manx Three Day Trial Gold medal and trophy.

    41st International Six Day Trial, held at Villingsberg, Sweden, from the 30th August - 5th September 1966; here he won a gold medal, and we have his competitor’s badge (95), a contemporary photograph and a Swedish glass paperweight. For this event he rode a 250 cc Greeves.

    42nd International Six Day Trial, held at Zakopane, in Poland, from the 17th - 22nd September 1967, we have a British Team I.S.D.T. - 1967 overall patch, a VASE arm label and a commemorative plate. Lasota rode a Greeves 24, registration number RHK 300D, in the event for the British Vase A team, an Army team who were disguised as a civilians, their efforts were ended on the on the fourth day; Mick Soames dislocated his shoulder in a fall, Ted Johns' AJS 500 engine blew, Mick Noyce on a BSA had engine failure, Pete Lasota sheared the flywheel key.

    I would think this would be of interest to the owner of RHK 300D
