  • Footrest rubbers

The ones on my 25 DB have had it. If they are the correct ones for the bike, they are bigger than any I have had before. Does anyone know of a source of supply for these?

    Thanks,

    Frank

    Footrest rubbers

The best source of these, and in fact ALL rubber based parts for motorcycles, (an area often overlooked by restorers & re-manufacture specialists), is Jim Hunter Engineering of Solihull, West Midlands, UK. Jim set this up about 30 years ago, and had many unobtainable parts remade, including ther rubber Trials No Plates as fitted to Greeves. These looked better than bits of conveyor belting.
Now, I believe Jim has retired abnd that his son has kept the business going. Unfortunately I don't have a current contact address, but they must be in the Motorcycle monthlies or OBM. I'll have a look in my Show Guides, I may find such, if I do I'll post it. If not, they are usually found just to the left of the far hall at the Stafford Shows, just next to the Auction Room.

Someone, poss John Wakefield, may know of other sources.

    Any help?

      Thanks

Thanks for the reminder, Peter. I've had stuff before from him and very good it was. I'd completely forgotten, though. This is what starts to happen as you get older. Now, what was I saying? Oh yes, last contact I had was as below. I'll drop an email in and see if it is still current.

        Footrest rubbers

I've been in touch with Jim Hunter and he's not sure that what he has is suitable. The internal diameter is 11/16, whereas the footrest on the Greeves is about 7/8. Has anybody got any other source of supply?

They do need to be 5/8 bore. Dave Pink had some he bought as a job lot from an ex Ransomes employee in Ipswich. but has now sold out, they were industrial wheelbarrow handle rubbers so horticultural dealers & ironmongers may have them. They are 1 7/8 inches at ends (see pic) Otherwise Dave says Villiers Services do them.
Found this supplier Vintage Bike Co.

Their AMC/Trumph ones look identical but have 1/2 inch bore. I would think these would be ok and put on with a dab soap would make a good tight fit.

Thanks, John. I'll take a look at the ones they have. I've already been on to Villiers Services, and they had some that were the right i/d for the pillion footrests, but not for the rider.

I'll post back here as and when I find some so as to help others, if I can.
