A tidy restoration, but a few things indicate a mix of parts. The engine was originally a 9E from a 1958 20D roadster, and the front forks have the later heavy duty loop, but have been fitted with MCS reinforcing plates. They look a bit saggy. Steel tank should be alloy, no Garda filter on the concentric carb, or megaphone, although the fitted exhaust is more practical. It would be interesting to know the frame number.
Some nice cars in that auction.......

Full Description
Art is where you find it. The owner of this 1961 250cc Greeves Hawkstone scrambler has had it on display in his house for the past 15 years and we think it’s as worthy of regard as any over-hyped daub by Damien or Tracy. We also think the man’s wife is a jewel amongst women for allowing it.
The bike was restored approximately 15 years ago by Richard Deal, of Greeves Motorcycles Ltd. The owner, our vendor, then took it for a quick blast around a nearby field before putting it on display in his home (we would comment that he must have a large mantel-piece, but that might be misconstrued). The vendor has owned the bike for 40 years, having bought it from a man in St Neots who had given it only light use when not admiring it in the seclusion of his garden shed.
There is no prior history of the bike (there’s a project for you) but there are copies of emails on file with details of the rebuild. While at Greeves, everything on the bike was overhauled, with the engine re-built, the frame powder-coated and replacement or renewal of any part where needed. The results speak for themselves, even after 15 years. It is expected that the bike will only need a change of oil and a quick check-over before it is ready for use. It is currently fitted with a standard gearbox but also comes with a wide-ratio set-up.
The bike is eligible for many classic scrambles events here and abroad, indeed, there is even a class solely for Greeves machines where it would be more than welcome.
